It’s disappointing that there is no all electric / plug in hybrid / hybrid option... yet. For someone like me the Mach-E is still the more interesting new product from Ford.
A plug in hybrid Bronco would be sweet. Imagine having 30ish miles of EV range to commute with it “guilt free” (not here for the power plant/ point source pollution / rare earth mineral argument. For me EVs as a big picture are “good”) and still have some petroleum power to use it like a toy on the weekend, or take it out for a longer road trip.
I think it’s a missed opportunity on Ford’s part to not launch the Bronco with a hybrid. Don’t know what exactly they’re missing out on, I just feel like it would be an excellent differentiating feature for it over the Jeep (I’m not holding my breath on the Wrangler 4xE). I’m probably a small part of the market that likes things like the Bronco but can’t bear the social/ actual cost of driving a 4x4 truck for my intracity commute.
I hear the hybrid Bronco and Bronco Sport are in the works, but I won’t be content until I can test drive one.
A plug in hybrid Bronco would be like the Impossible Burger of cars. As the Impossible makes burgers available for vegetarians (pescatarians in my case) the electric Bronco would make 4x4 fun available for environmentally conscious individuals like myself. The self righteous should be able to have fun too.

Yeah this is just the start. Bronco will be a whole family of vehicles and I'm sure we will see hybrid versions down the line. And I could see the bronco sport going full electric.

Because you don’t think it’ll be good or won’t arrive soon? It still seems possible it’ll arrive this year but of course 2020.

2020 is a big part of it, but I just don’t see FCA as a company really interested in EVs. They’re very good at the opposite of EVs ; Hellcats and Jeeps . Not that they can’t be both, I just see Fords take on an electric 4x4 coming out better, since they already took a big symbolic step in tying Mustang into EVs. For me that seems like they're taking EVs seriously in putting one of their most recognizable brands on the line for them.

How about a hybrid manual? I’m no off-roader but that would interest me.

“ can’t bear the social/ actual cost of driving a 4x4 truck for my intracity commute.”
Hahahahahaha do you realize how little that has impacted the truck market. Not saying it is a bad thing, but how many people commute in the biggest gas guzzlers they can find? Lots.

As someone who has worked from home for four months, what is commuting?

Commuting is a social construct.

Yeah people like me definitely aren’t driving any truck market decisions, but we still exist.
Sometimes I wish I wasn’t as... I don’t know. I don’t want to say educated because that implies people who drive g as guzzlers are uneducated which is a sweeping generalization I don’t want to make (I also wish I was more educated than I am, and am very fortunate and grateful to have an education). I just wish I could go out and enjoy things without thinking about it too much. I just can’t bring myself to purchase a vehicle that I know has a greater environmental / personal financial impact than absolutely necessary. I also can’t bring myself to eat meat for the same reasons (although I eat fish, the word is Pescatarian). I like to be pretty open and make fun of my own “self righteousness”, kinda to make these rather absolute and to some people extreme views on the environment more palatable. I’m not miserable with how I have chosen to live my life, but I do wish I didn’t always have to make such compromises and just enjoy things without the burden of their impact.

That is a sentiment I sometimes wish I didn’t know as well as I do . Ignorance may be bliss but knowledge is strength.
I like small nimble cars. Small nimble cars are generally more fuel efficient. I can’t afford a new car. Keeping used cars on the road is good for the environment in most cases. I couldn’t really do any more, but I understand the concern about environmental impact. You can have a great time and not have a guilty conscience, but balance is in order to do so.
With me, it is that I have never really enjoyed good health and kind of wish I had the feeling of youthful invincibility. With Coronavirus it is a blessing just as much as a curse. Before, it was just a curse. You might sit there and wish you didn’t care as much about future generations but there is an upshot to that. Don’t ask me where to look for it though. I'm too busy trying to answer the same question about myself.

I guess you're just too woke to drive a Bronco. At least you can dream. Or maybe pick up a Rav4 Hybrid? I hear they put some nice off road stickers on those.

It’s what happens when people make bad choices.

As a non-environmentally conscious person, I would just like a hybrid with a removable hardtop.

Jeep has to be interested in EV though . IIRC correctly China is making EV mandatory in some form, all jeeps are going to have a phev option soon. My friend was supposed to get a pre-production plug in wrangler to be a tester (weekly reports but discount), it got pushed back because of Covid, but its coming.

I can’t blame them. I’m guessing they are focused on not messing up the gas version, which is the one that the majority of the population would buy. I heard rumours that they could potentially make a plug-in or EV version, but it would only make sense that it would come later.
